Here are your options, in order of strength:

1. Two separate end assemblies, each with their own 2 posts, placed close together but not connected. Best for strength and flexibility.
2. One end assembly, angled to bisect the corner. Soil dependent; strong enough in most applications, though it places a post in the middle of the corner.
3. Two assemblies on a single shared corner post. Saves one post but only recommended for light-duty use.

Steel end assemblies, also known as a strainer assembly, are robust setups that typically include a combination of posts, stays, braces, and accessories designed to form an anchor for fencing wire to be tensioned between, usually one at each end of a fence or corner. Unlike traditional timber assemblies, steel end assemblies are favored for their durability, fire resistance, and low maintenance. They are often hot-dip galvanized to prevent rust and ensure longevity, making them ideal for harsh environments like flood-prone or bushfire-prone areas.

It depends on the type of animal and whether you’re keeping them in or predators out:

Sheep: Hinged joint mesh, prefabricated mesh, or 5 plain electrified wires with an earth return

Cattle: Plain wire with top barbed wire, or electric fencing with earth return

Goats: Tight mesh with high-tensile save wires on top and bottom

Horses: Smooth wire or visible rail to reduce injury risk

Standard fences: 3–4 meters (10–13 ft)

High-tension fences: 6–9 meters (20–30 ft), using droppers between posts

Steel posts are generally preferred due to:

• Easier installation
• Longer life
• Fire resistance

Minimum 900mm. Preferably 1metre or more for a standard 1200mm high fence.

Soil type will affect depth requirements. For taller fences, go deeper.

Sheep: ~900mm

Cattle: 1.2m

Goats: 1.2–1.5m

Deer/exclusion fencing: 1.8–2.4m

Use a wire strainer or tensioning tool. High-tensile wire should be taut, but not overstretched to avoid fatigue or snapping. Refer to manufacturers instructions.

Yes. Fencestay assemblies are often easier to install in difficult terrain than conventional timber and concrete options.

In Australia, End Assemblies generally come in two forms.

• Box or “H” Brace Assembly, which is basically a horizontal stay between two posts, with a diagonal brace which could be either made from wire in tension or a solid material in compression. Box assemblies are usually made from either timber with a wire diagonal brace in tension, or steel with a stiff diagonal brace in compression
• Diagonal Stay, which is a single stay post in the corner or end with a diagonal stay in compression from the post to a foot plate on the ground. These too can also be made from either timber or steel

Fencestay, is a Steel Box End Assembly Kit, with a diagonal stay in compression. The posts are driven into the ground, then the stay assembly is attached to the two posts.
